Covert Hypnotism – Establishing A communication Channel

Covert Hypnotism – Communication

covert hypnotism

As previously stated, conversational or covert hypnotism, depends on the subject actually being open to communicating, and listening.

Without this prerequisite, the best words and structured commands will have no effect, since they are not absorbed.

When friends converse, there is already a communication channel, based on previous experiences, time valued trust and knowledge of each other. After all they are friends, because they have things in common, and are able to share similar experiences and have a matching value system.

So here it would be easy to embed commands into the conversation and so use the power of covert hypnotism to influence them.

What about a stranger though?

Well firstly one has to get the attention of the person to use covert hypnotism. Also it needs to be done in a fairly subtle way, so as to not alert them that something is out of the ordinary.

But attention is only the first step. they actually need to want to hear what you have to say, before you can apply any type of hypnotic conversation. The thing most likely to get someone to listen to you, is if they feel that they have something in common with you, so that they could possibly like you.

But how can a stranger feel that you something in common?

This is where the covert part of the techniques start. You need to establish rapport. This means, that they perceive that they are like you, and possibly share similar beliefs.

The subconscious mind picks up on a myriad of subtle signals and mannerisms, that indicate to it that there may be a commonality. Things that you would consciously usually not even be aware of or notice. The speed and depth of breathing. The speed of talking. Involuntary body positions or hand movements. Subdued facial expressions. These are all obvious indicators to the subconscious that there is a connection, when you have really no idea on a mental level what theses are.

A trained hypnotist will employ all these techniques, to lull the subconscious mind into a belief of total rapport. The hypnotist will start off with very subtle mirroring of body functions such as breathing. He will breathe as shallow or deep as the subject, with the same speed.

Next he will mimic the general body posture of the subject. If the subject is in a relaxed state, he will also assume a relaxed posture. He will subtly copy little facial tics, and hand movements. All done very unobtrusively, so that the conscious mind totally misses this.

Then in the conversation itself, he will ask more questions initially, make him seem interested and likeable (we all like someone who wants to hear our story).

When all of this has been achieved, the subject can now be led into areas of conversation, where the need to ask questions arises. Now the hypnotist can strike and structure answers to embed his commands and suggestions. Before you know it, the subject is very much under control, but totally unaware of this.

Sometimes of course, things are not so simple. The subject may be agitated and needs to be relaxed first. No problem, using other tools, the hypnotist leads the subject into the right state of mind, and carries on.

There is a lot to know and practice, for conversational hypnosis to be effective, but then it is extremely powerful. Whether you like it or not, you are being subjected to this on a daily basis.

If you are unaware, you are being taken advantage of and not totally in control of your life by being subjected to covert hypnotism.

Conversational Hypnosis – What is it exactly?

Conversational Hypnosis

Many people underestimate the power of conversational hypnosis.

Conversational Hypnosis

This is often due to the fact, that they actually don’t clearly understand what it actually is. Unlike a zombie like trance, where the subject seems to have virtually no control over their actions, this is a much more subtle form of mind control, only just as effective.

In almost all cases, the person being influenced, has no idea as to what is actually happening, hence the term covert or conversational hypnosis. In reality, the hypnotist is appearing to be talking normally, but saying things in such a way, that they bypass the logical and analytical part of the mind and get absorbed as a hidden command by the subconscious.

To a casual listener, it seems as if there is only a normal conversation going on, about some random topic, that both parties seem to be interested in. However, the subject is fed certain vocabulary, which is concealed in such a way as to not seem obvious, that will suggest a certain thought, or embed a specific command.

This is done, by varying the speed, volume or inflection of certain words, in such a way, that the normal analytical mind would not notice, but the subconscious will pick them out and string them together, to form a coherent statement

The trick is to structure sentences in such a way, that they still seem to make sense to the normal listener, yet contain the embedded command with powerful words in the correct sequence.

When this word and sentence structure is available to be used, it only remains to then emphasize the parts making up the command to be absorbed into the subjects mind.

Now logically, this sounds fairly simple. However, for someone to string together a persuasive phrase, using words, which might not normally fit the current subject of conversation, is an art. It is something that requires a very sharp and astute thought process, as well as an adequate vocabulary to pull off. Furthermore, the attention required to do this, means that one has to be thinking along two lines at once – firstly the original subject of the conversation, and secondly the command that is to be communicated.

On top of that, highlighting the command words in a subtle but discernable way, which does not seem strange or unnatural to the subject is also something that needs to be used carefully.

All of this can be achieved, once the basic principles are understood. Thereafter, it becomes merely a matter of practice, until perfection is reached.

There are though a number of prerequisites, to making conversational hypnosis work effectively. Understanding the above and optimizing its delivery, is of little use or effect, if the subject is not listening to you.

As obvious as this sounds, this is where most would be hypnotists go wrong. They fail to establish a channel of communication first. It is somewhat like reciting a brilliant Shakespeare soliloquy at the bottom of a mine shaft. It might be brilliant, but since no one hears you, who will know?

So it would actually be better to have something not quite as brilliant, but uttered within earshot of an attentive audience.

Again , a simple concept, but so often disregarded. So for the power of conversational hypnosis to be usable, it is imperative, that a communication channel needs to be there first.

What Is Hypnosis?

Wikipedia defines hypnosis as :

A mental state (state theory) or set of attitudes (nonstate theory) usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject (“hetero-suggestion”), or may be self-administered (“self-suggestion” or “autosuggestion”)

Some Explanation First.

I prefer to describe hypnosis more as a mental state of trance, somewhere between asleep and awake, a semi conscious state, if you will. In this state, you are not limited to the reality around you, and are therefore open to suggestions, which may go straight into your subconscious. Your reality is defined by your imagination, and seemingly impossible things can take on a form of reality, similar to sleep walking or lucid dreaming.

The hypnotherapist moves you into that state, and communicates with your now accessible imagination. New or different behavior patterns can be created, by bypassing the limited experience driven conscious mind.

As the hypnotist now controls your reality, he may guide you into many different types of experiences, both happy and sad, blissful and terrifying, merely by painting word pictures.

The real strength herein lies that a certain feeling can be linked to a certain action. In that way, smoking may be linked to a terrible feeling, helping in stopping smoking. The way in which these experiences are linked, and the strength of the emotion, determines the effectiveness of the new programming.

Even though stage hypnotists can make you do things that would normally not be within your comfort zones, they cannot violate any deep rooted moral programming with hypnosis.

So in effect, if you see someone acting in a way that is less inhibited, that person would act that way anyway, if they were not feeling controlled by the pressure of society.

Having said that, most peoples moral code allows a fair amount of  leeway, to enable behavior that would be considered out of the ordinary in any case.

Should you regard any of the suggestions to be immoral or wrong your mind would rebel and reject the suggestion. If this was not the case, hypnotists would have the power to control the world and make everyone conform to their bidding.

Should you listen to some politicians and other public figures, you will however often be guided into a way of thinking that suits that individual.

This is happening all day and everyday. You need to be aware of this and turn it around for your gain and advantage.

The more you understand the concepts and tools being used by the manipulators around you and how they actually use hypnosis, the more you will be in control of your life.

Furthermore, armed with some of these tools and this knowledge yourself, you will be able to turn situations to your advantage.
